In this session of Around the Horn, I'll take a look at how some of the best prospects in the game are faring so far around the minors.
- Tigers Prospect Rick Porcello has started off well for the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League. Though he was credited with the loss in yesterday's start against Sarasota, he pitched 5 solid innings giving up no runs and only surrendered 4 hits to accompany 4 strike outs. The Flying tigers defense accounted for four unearned runs, which is why Porcello was credited with a loss.
- Orioles Catcher Matt Wieters continues to impress for the Fredrick Keys of the Carolina league. Last night he went 2-3 with two RBIs.
- Wade LeBlank struck out 11 Sacramento Bees yestertday in his first AAA start of his career. LeBlank is a product of the San Diego Padres organization.
- Cameron Maybin of the Florida Marlins has put up at least one hit in his first five games. Maybin has started the season in AA Carolina after many thought he would start the season as the Marlin's everyday center fielder.
- Soon to be Big Leaguers Andrew McCuthen and Jay Bruce have hit well to start off the season. Evan Longoria has struggled early but is the most likely of this bunch to get called up first, simply because Willy Aybar is not the answer at third for the Rays.
- Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers phenom, gave up one run in three runs so far in 2008. It will be interesting to see if he finds a spot on the Dodgers big league club any time this season
