Tigers Land Sheffield, Orioles Grab Wright, are the Yankees actually looking toward the Future

By Dex
The Yankees are at it Again Folks. After an Uppsetting finish in the playoffs, losing to the wildcard tigers in the first round of the American League Playoffs, It looks like George Steinbrenner, Owner of the Yanks, is ready to reaload. Two Trades, which sent Gary Sheffield to the Tigers, and Jaret Wright to the Orioles might be the Start of a completley different looking roster at the end of the offseason. This though, is some of the smartest moves the have made in a long time. Sheffield, who was set to be a free agent at the end of the playoffs, had his option picked up by the yankees. With a weak free agent market, the Yankee front office figured that if they picked up an option, they would be able to trade him and get some valued players to bolster thier system. In the Deal, the Yankees get Humberto Sanchez, a starter, who is really close to the Major leagues. Sanchez, ranked the 5th best prospect in baseball by baseball america, and who averages a strikeout a game, features a nasty slider. Under the right guidance, he oculd be a major force. Anthony Clogget, another piece of the puzzle, features a great sinker that could lead to success in the Major Leagues. Two days later, Brian Cashman was at it again, when he sent Veteran pitcher Jaret Wright to the Orioles for Young Reliever Chris Britton. Britton did fine for a rookie last year, but wont be called upon most likely to play a big part in 2007, but who knows. Getting Wright was a big move, becuase again, the yankees make something out of nothing. Wright, who was heading toward free agency, was expecting a four million dollar buyout from the Yanks, but instead the yanks paid that outright to the Orioles in part of the Wright deal. They were going to lose Four Million either way, and they pulled out a decent trade. Brian Cashman is making some bright moves to start the off-season. is Best move might be keeping Alex Rodriquez. Cubs Resign Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood:

Lou Piniella sighed a breath of relief, now knowing that he will have some power back in the Cubs lineup in 2007 and Beyond, after Third baseman Aramis Ramirez signed a five year contract on Sunday. Bringing Back Kerry Wood could be Essential to the 2007 Season. Even though he has missed most of the past two seasons, Wood fills a void at either the Closer Position a starting position, or even as a reliever. Look for Wood to Battle hard for the closing Spot with Ryan Dempster and Scott Erye.
