In the land of 1000 lakes there lies an organization with more outfield depth than nearly any other organization in major league baseball. They have graduated guys such as Denard Span and Micheal Cuddyer and traded for talent such as Carlos Gomez and Delmon Young. And Yet, their minor league system is deep in outfield talent. Guys Like Joe Benson and Jason Pirdie, alongside recently drafted Aaron Hicks wrap out a great class of outfielders. But One other sticks out more than these ballplayers. And that is Ben Revere.

A four year standout at Lexington Catholic High school in Kentucky and Mr. Baseball for that state in 2007, Ben put together career numbers that were astonishing which include a .489 batting average, 223 hits, 189 runs, 183 RBI, 45 doubles, 29 homers and a state-record 28 triples. In 600 high school at bats, Revere only ended up striking out 19 times.

Despite these numbers, and a draft best 6.3 second 60 yard draft time, Revere was considered a reach for the Twins at pick 28 because of his lack of power and any ability to develop it. The Twins rolled the Dice anyways, signing Revere to a 750,000 dollar contract, the smallest amount of money for a first round hitter since Adam Kennedy in 1994.

So far in his first professional season with the A Midwest League Beloit Snappers, Revere has been just short of perfect. Revere is hitting .401 in 60 games with 8 triples and 39 runs scored.

Revere projects to be an Ichiro type hitter that can slash hits into gaps and stretch them out into doubles and triples. He also has one of the best work ethics in the system, according to Twins officials. Though his power is not up to par and may never be, some twins scouts believe he will be able to develop average power in the future.

Jim Callis of Baseball America believes that Revere is the Twins' new Number One Prospect heading into the second half.
