On this day in 2002, for the first time since 1972, the designated hitter was not used in a full slate of games. For 10 consecutive games, an American League ballpark was not used and fans of the National League were teased with AL pitchers batting.

Also on this day in 2005, Ichiro Suzuki became the third fastest player to 1000 hits in his career. It only took him 696 games.
