Two Giants Getting Little Attention

Though San Fransisco sits seven games out of first place in the west and 8 games below the .500 mark, they have seen production from two unlikely sources. Bengie Molina and Ray Durham have really stepped up their game in even bigger roles offensively.

Molina, who many consider the weakest number three hitter in the league, has shined. After hitting .311 with 6 HRs and 42 RBIs so far this season, you would think the Giants would be happy with his performance on the field. Any other management would be.

After drafting Buster Posey, the best catcher available in the Major League Draft, Giants General Manager Brian Sabean has some choice words about his the correlation of current catcher Molina, and future star Buster Posey. Sabean said that Posey "is on the fast track and Bengie's clock is winding down.".. Molina, in his own right, was upset with that comment.

Here is a player that has worked hard for everything he has. Molina is a well on his way to setting career highs in most offensive categories. And Sabean has enough guts to say that he is wearing down. Molina has done everything that has been asked of him this season. Sabean claims that he was refering to his contract expiring after the 2009 season. I believe it could be a ploy to try and trade the catcher.

At second base, Ray Durham is proving that his age is not slowing him down. Hitting .298 with 21 RBIs might not sound like a great campaign, but after a down year Durham is responding. This could be his last year in a baseball uniform as well. In his last year under contract, It's evident that Durham could be trade bait for a contender. Fresh off his 2,000th hit, it would be nice to see this gamer get a ring.

Though packaging these two players would cost around 14 million for 2008 and 6 million for Molina's 09 contract, It could happen for the right price. The only issue is what teams need a second baseman and catcher? Only time will tell, but I hope both of these players get a chance elsewhere.
