Relievers Signing at Rapid Rate

It seems that most of the relievers of the first round of the draft are finally settling into contracts.

  • According to the Detroit Free Press, The Tigers have signed Arizona right hander Ryan Perry today. Like many, including draft expert Keith Law, the article believes that Perry could be on the major league roster by September. It will be interesting to see how this works out for the Tigers.
  • Cubs first round pick Andrew Cashner will also sign by the end of the week. Cashner could be converted into a starter by the Cubs. Cashner had nine saves and 80 strikeouts with the horned frogs of TCU. I think it would be wise to give Cashner a bit more time in the minors. He is still a bit raw at this point.
  • The Mariners are still in negotiations with Joshua Fields. Considered the most ready reliever for the major leagues, the Mariners are hoping that he can get to Seattle on the fast track such as Brandon Morrow has. Fields has a mid 90's fastball with a nasty power curve.
