There is a lot of mystery and lore that have been embedded with the name George Herman Ruth. Of course there is the curse that has been lifted in Boston, the search for his piano, and now Charlie Poekel is making one Ruth Story concrete in history.

Poekel's book, "Babe and the Kid: The Legend of Babe Ruth and Johnny Sylvester," chronicles the legend of Babe Ruth's promise to a young and extremely ill Johnny Sylvester to hit a home run for him. Ruth ended up hitting three in game four of the 1926 World Series.

Though Ruth and the Yankees would lose in seven games to the Cardinals, The Sultan of Swat made his way to New Jersey to greet the young boy whom he had promised to hit one out for. And thus a legend was born. And now, that legend can be set in stone.

A plaque will be placed this Saturday by Author Charlie Poekel at Johnny Sylvester's former home in Essex Fells, NJ.

Poekel believes that, "If you don't do things like this - the book, the plaque - it's a story that could be lost forever."

So on this day, Let's remember the man that gave so much to our game and to the people of his era that he influenced. Heres to the best player ever to play the game. Despite your history, You were a gentleman and a scholar.
