Shadowed by first round draft choice Rick Porcello, and his monstrous major league contract, Brandon Hamilton is slowly becoming a talented prospect in the Detroit Tigers organization. Hamilton was drafted in the supplementary round of the 2007 draft and could of gone in the first if Porcello didn't fall to the Tigers. Scouts in the organization believe that Hamilton, not Porcello has the best curve ball in the system.

One thing that hinders Hamilton is his lack of control. His fastball has little to no movement and it can cause hitters to jump on it. With a bit more experience, Hamilton should be able to mix it well with his 83 MPH downer curve that is his selling pitch. With clean mechanics, and a fluid frame, This kid could have a future in the big leagues.

This kid has a lot of time to develop his pitches and with most of Detroit's starters locked up long term, he could be held back longer than needed because of the lack of room on Detroit's Roster. In a small sample size though, we can see that he has talent.

So far in two seasons of nearly the same amount of innings, Hamilton has shown constant excellence and near identical numbers at two levels of the game. His control has been a work in progress, but so far this season for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League (A Ball), Hamilton has shown a decline. So far this season he has walked more batters than he has struck out. This could be an issue the higher he moves up the minor league chain. Either way, Hamilton shows a lot of promise on the mound for a youngster.
