The Delgado Factor

The Mets are in First Place. No, you do not need your reading glasses, you read that right. It comes at a time where the rival Phillies can't put together a solid all around game. Let's not discredit the Mets though. A big reason for their success has been the bat of Mr. Carlos Delgado. The same man that was being booed out of games, is now the Savior of Queens. Delgado almost matched his power production April and May in June. In September he has only hit .406 with five homers. Here are the Splits:

Though I am not on the Mets Bandwagon, I think they are on track to actually being the NL East champion this time around. Their Starting Rotation is scary, especially since you don't know what you are getting from Pedro Martinez and Oliver Perez has been shaky. But I think that Omar Minaya will add two more pieces to the puzzle to make it interesting. We all know Minaya is going to do anything he can to keep his job. Wouldn't it be something, if through all this turmoil, he pulls out a world series, even though the Cubs and Brewers have made the big splashes so far before the deadline.

On the mound, the turnaround of Mike Pelfrey has been a big reason this team has looked much better on the field and in the standings. After going 0-5 with a 5.35 ERA in May, Pelfrey has gone 6-0, with a 1.86 ERA in July since then.

This will be an interesting team to watch. But it is still early. Philly will bounce back, and Florida will hang tough. Should make it fun.
