UPDATE (1:21 PM) : Brewers Beat Writer Tom Haudricourt is reporting that Doug Melvin, GM of the Milwaukee Brewers, has no interest in second baseman Brian Roberts.

We have some interesting things happening around the game of baseball today. Especially Rumors and trade possibilities via Ken Rosenthal. Enough with the foreplay, lets get right into that action.

Ken Rosenthals Latest:

  • Rosenthal reports that either Manager John McLaren and Willie Randolph could see their managerial careers come to an end with their respected team within the week. I think that McLaren is the guy that really has to go. This team has never responded to him as a manager. Remember, It was Mike Hargrove who got them off to a hot start in 2007. Though Willie Randolph got swept by the Padres this weekend, I believe he has until the all-star break to turn things around in New York. I don't think this sweep is represented by the horrid play of the Mets. The Padres are simply warming up. McLaren's road doesn't get easier after a rough series in Boston this weekend. He has to face Toronto, Washington and Florida in his next three series. If he doesn't take 4 of 6 in the Jays/Nationals series' then he should be canned.
  • Relievers should be going off the trade market pretty quickly. Rosenthal believes the Cubs and Phillies will be major buyers for bullpen help, considering each team's major relievers injury history (Gordon/Lidge and Ketty Wood). Rosenthal names A's right-hander Huston Street, Nationals righty Jon Rauch, Orioles left-hander George Sherrill, Rockies lefty Brian Fuentes and Pirates lefty Damaso Marte as likely trade bait. I think it is save to throw in a bunch of Giants relievers, including Tyler Walker, Vinnie Chulk and Brian Wilson. The Royals could decide to let go of Ron Mahay, along with Ramon Ramirez and Yasuhiko Yabuta. The Twins also might be shopping Juan Rincon and Jesse Crain. The Indians and Tigers could also be buyers.
  • Speaking of Needs, Rosenthal believes that a deal could come together between the Brewers and Orioles for second baseman Rickie Weeks. A straight up deal would nearly be a steal for the Brewers and would benefit the Orioles. Roberts will be a free agent at the end of next season and Weeks would be under contract until 2011. Weeks surely has a lot of power potential and Roberts gives the Brewers the lead off presence they need to win now. I like this deal, but I believe it will take one more mid to top notch prospect to pull the deal off. Maybe a Jeremy Jeffress or Brent Brewer would work.
  • With the Cub's offense finally coming around, It seems that beyond relief help, the only thing GM Jim Hendry is looking to add at the deadline will be starting pitching. Rosenthal hints C.C. Sabathia, but i just don't see that working out. It would take a lot of hefty prospects to make a deal happen and a promise of an extension on C.C's part. Joe Blanton, Rich Harden, Kevin Millwood, Vincente Padilla or a revived Rich Hill make a lot more sense.
  • Apparently the Red Sox could have interest in slugger Adam Dunn of the Reds if David Ortiz doesn't heal quite as fast as hoped. Dunn is a free agent at the end of the season, and if the Red Sox didn't resign him, they would recieve two draft picks. That sounds like the Theo Epstein way.
