Man alive do we have some news for you. And yes, some if involves the manager who got canned at 3 in the morning yesterday!!! I mean come on, the Mets at least could of served him some Denny's on the West coast for his troubles.

Here is your news from around the league.

Top Story:

  • The Rays have invited number one pick Tim Beckham to Tropicana Field this weekend with one thing in mind. To get him signed to a major league contract. Beckham's father believes a deal will be done before they head home for Georgia. Once this deal is finished, we should see others drafted in the top ten start to fall into place. Pedro Alvarez, Justin Smoak, Aaron Crow, Brian Matusz and Brett Wallace have all completed their college season. The Rays have already signed Tim's brother Jeremy.
Coaching News:

  • Recently fired manager Willie Randolph could land a job with his former club as special consultant. Hal Steinbrenner stated in the New York Post that, "Anything was a possibility." Randolph served as the bench coach under former Yankee manager Joe Torre and played there from 1976-1988. Torre chimed in on the subject saying, "I don't think there's ever a good time [to let anyone go], with all the talk that's surrounded him for a month or so, it's unfortunate. He's a good baseball man. And I guess I can say this three times, just because you get fired, doesn't mean you don't know what you're doing." I would have to agree with Mr. Torre.
  • Barry Zito could be reunited with former oakland pitching coach Rick Peterson. San Fransisco has a history of bringing in coaches as special instructors. Peterson was a major factor in Zito's early Cy Young success. They have a professional relationship that links back to Zito's college days. This would be a good move by the Giants. Maybe it will get something clicking on the mound for Zito. Peterson can't magically pull out a 88 MPH fastball out of his back pocket though. Zito has been hitting in the low to mid 80s with his fastball.
Around the League:

  • The Everett Harold is reporting that Richie Sexson will be released sometime this week. Though it is a complicated situation, Sexson would either become a free agent, or milk out the rest of his 2009 contract on the bench for the M's. Sexson has been everything but productive this season. The Mariners recently called up Jeff Clement and could use him at first base permanently.
  • The Cubs have called up Matt Murton possibly as an attempt to lure the Red Sox into sending Coco Crisp to the north side of Chicago. The Cubs are reportedly fine with sending starter Rich Hill to the Sox with Murton in exchange for Crisp and another player. Murton went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts yesterday. And yet again, the Cubs are giving up too early on their young talent (Please See Matt Murton, Ronny Cedeno, Rich Hill and Felix Pie).
