Armando Galarraga: AL Rookie of the Year?

For Nolan Ryan, it has to hurt just a bit. Jason Jennings is 0-5 with a 8.56 ERA. The man designated and traded to open a spot for Jennings on the roster is 7-2 with a 3.03 ERA.

Armando Galarraga has been a saving grace in a lackluster rotation in Detroit. Originally filling in for the injured Dontrelle Willis, Galarraga was only a stop gap. His job was to fill in a couple starts and then head back down to Toledo. Now, his seven wins leads the team. And Dontrelle Willis is trying to work things out in the sunshine state.

I know that Galarraga's fastball, which tops out at 91, isn't of the same value as say Evan Longoria's bat or Ellsbury's all around game is more important all around, but their production cannot match a .184 average against. If he holds on to this pace, he will be the first since Johan Santana in 2004 to keep hitters below the Mendoza line.

I have made my case for Armando Galarraga for AL Rookie of the Year. Let's take a look at what other rookies are doing in their respected roles.
