Major League Baseball is looking into experimenting with instant replay in the Arizona Fall league. If everything goes well, we could see the instant replay makes its way into the second World Baseball Classic in March and then head to spring training with the boys down in Florida and Arizona. Though the use of instant replay would only be on close home run calls, the advancement in technology could propel fans back into the game even more. Just this week we have seen numerous blown calls, and it is good to see Major League Baseball have some course of action for it.

The other course of action that could of been considered is adding a "outfield" umpire to the rotation to fairly call home run calls. Though this would more protect the integrity of the game, MLB is making the right choice here. Fans will "dig" the new technology and our infamous game will prosper from it. The interesting part of the proposal is simply, why now? Home Runs are down from years past, but it has taken this long to introduce.

How will this effect the games we love? Well that seems simple. The might take 20-30 minutes longer and we will now have a near 100% homer rate to those who ultimately hit the big fly. Though a part of the fan in me is saddened that America's game has turned to technology, In the end it could be better for the game, and I'm willing to admit that.
