What a good day in baseball yesterday. Great games all over the place. Today we have already seen the Tigers sweep the rangers to climb three games away from .500. We also saw Pat Burrell's bat carry the phils against the Brewers and a battle of the Bats in LA. You have to love this time of the year! its baseball fever baby! Anyways, its time to go around the horn!

  • The Oakland A's signed DH Frank Thomas today. I think all in all this is another witty move by Billy Beane becuase he only has to commit for this season. Though his team is young on the field, they have played really well going into this weekend's action. Thomas was offered a 2 year contract by the A's after the 2006 ALCS. What does this mean for Mike Sweeney? Who really knows. His lack of power though was evident and his role could be reduced to a role player of the bench.
  • So why did the Jays let go of one of the best Designated Hitters ever to play the game? While Thomas claims it was because of the enormous player option in 2009, we have to look at the performance of Matt Stairs. The Canadian product is hitting .333 with a blistering .500 slugging percentage. Ok, so maybe that isn't that good considering Chase Utley's sits at .835.
  • The Rockies have finally named slurve throwing lefty Brian Fuentes closer again after Manny Corpas blew another save last night. For all of you who had him in leagues for holds, congrats. A pat on the back for my fantasy pitching. Fuentes and Corpas flopped roles during the 2007 run to the world series.
  • The Royals released pitcher Hideo Nomo earlier this week. Nomo was given a shot after not pitching in the league for three years. Nomo's splitter is one of the most devestating in baseball history.
  • Rich Hill will miss his next start this week and it has nothing to do with injury. Cubs manager Lou Piniella said it was simply because he wants to keep his top four guys on five day rotations. The Cubs have an off day on Monday when Hill is scheduled to start. Hill's next start will be May 3, against St. Louis
  • Marlins pitcher Andrew Miller got his first win of the season last night. The Marlins smashed the braves 7-2. Andrew Miller and Burke Badenhop have become an important part of the Marlin's rotation. Both came over from Detroit this off-season.
