Dexter Sports Pick up of the Week: Nate McLouth

--Dexter Sports

Opening day is now behind us and the summer is about to begin in full force. The snow is melting away (in some places) and the hot dogs and brats are on the grill. Most importantly though, your fantasy team is about to begin competing. Here at Dexter Sports, we are about to begin a new weekly series, giving you the fantasy player of the week that should be picked up from your waiver wire. Normally we will bring this to you on Monday Mornings, but I am excited to kick this off with someone who has torn it up to start the season, and projects to be a value to any fantasy team. Week 1's pick up of the week goes to: Nate McLouth, the starting center fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McLouth displayed in his only game of the year what he is completely capable of. Against the Braves, he drove in 4 runs and homered while being a constant on the base paths. He scored 3 of the pirates runs in the opener after winning out the starting job over Nyjer Morgan this spring.

What makes McLouth so special is the fact that he will get on base a lot. Just in one game this season, he reached base four out of six times. I know it is early in the year, but why not take a chance on a guy who will steal you bases, increase your average, and even possibly sneak some power into your lineup? If McLouth is available in a league near you, pick him up. People will forget about him in the Carlos Gomez frenzy.
